Sound Avenue opens 2022's second quarter with a new single from label boss Madloch and frequent studio partner Subnode. Now approaching four years in their creative partnership, the Belgian duo had a noteworthy 2021, releasing two well-received singles across the year. September saw Madloch and Subnode deliver their ‘A Short Moment' to commemorate Another Life Music's one hundredth release. Backed by remixes from Petar Dundov and Zoi (CA), it was quickly followed by what was arguably the duo's most enigmatic work to date in ‘Utopia'. Landing in October amidst support from Eelke Kleijn, Laurent Garnier and Nick Warren, the sleek yet powerful creation received remixes from iconic duo Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile, along with rising Aussie talent Microlot. Now, presenting their first project of 2022, Madloch and Subnode return to Sound Avenue with the much anticipated ‘Bariloche', alongside remixes from Jean Caillou and Fabian Balino.

Madloch and Subnode's capacity for storytelling using sound design - both comforting and challenging - resonates across ‘Bariloche'. The duo lets shapeshifting soundscapes, dubbed out tones and sheets of rain-like percussion descend over warm beats and hypno-rhythms. Soft acid lines percolate across the first movement, neatly juxtaposed against stylized synths, before a break of tranquil tones provides a bridge into a meditative finale.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of ‘Bariloche' is Jean Caillou. First emerging in 2016, the Swiss artist quickly established himself with releases via Magician On Duty, RYNTH, Sag and Tre and Underyourskin Records, where his deep, melodious sound flourished. Moving forward, July of 2019 saw the Zurich resident make his Sound Avenue debut with a well-received remix of Joe Miller's ‘The Days'. A deep and enchanting creation which ultimately set the course for Jean to deliver two EPs and a remix over the next two years. Perhaps most lauded was last months ‘Simplon', a five-track showcase which quickly found favour with Atish, Be Svendsen and Nick Warren. Now returning to the label for his third remix, Jean dials in a lush interpretation of ‘Bariloche'. Taking inspiration from the original, the Swiss artist flexes his free-thinking muscles and crafts a version that lands comfortably between the surreal and exotic. Additional drive resonates from life-like pulses and deliberate percussion, while never letting go of its tranquil vibration and haunted minimalism, which ultimately makes this a late-night delight.

The release concludes with Fabian Balino returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Bariloche'. Born in New York but raised in Uruguay, Fabian Balino is no stranger to the Sound Avenue label family, having released five originals and a remix since his debut via 2021's ‘Correlation' Vol. 4 collection. Also, an accomplished DJ, the New York resident has taken his groovy sound to the city's nightlife, performing at PHD Dream Downtown, XVI Rooftop and 1Oak, where he supported international star Felix Da Housecat. Continuing to build a bond with Sound Avenue, Fabian now returns to the label with a groovy take on ‘Bariloche'. Tempo and drive come up a touch as the piece takes shape, with siren-like tones and wavering sonics creating an air of anticipation. More enthralling yet is a heartfelt harmonic wave, gently rising as percussion flickers off in the distance, with the second of two breaks drawing closer. Tranquil tones and dulcet chord stabs intertwine as the interlude evolves, eventually reaching an understanded apex and soaring, key changing finale. A sensational interpretation from Fabian, making for a successful Sound Avenue return for himself, Jean Caillou, Madloch and Subnode.
